For a character that was once depicted as just a dot of light in some of the original renditions of Peter Pan, the “common fairy” known as Tinkerbell has reached heights that her creators might never have imagined. The franchise character has since her induction into the realm of Disney has become a mascot, a showpiece, and a star in her own right. After her successful appearance in Peter Pan, during which she gained a rather large following, Tinkerbell was included within the annals of Disney lore and magic and remains so to this day.
Having gained such notoriety through her on-screen appearance, Tinkerbell has since been featured in her own straight to DVD film series, which depicts her beginnings and life in Pixie Hollow. It was only natural that the DVD series would give way to a line of Disney Fairy toy characters, which are immensely popular with young girls and even some older ones.

With the onset of her solo film debut Tinkerbell was swiftly joined by several notable faces, all of them fairies, and all of them of different “talents”.

While Tinkerbell retains her industrious and always clever ways as a Tinker, her friends enjoy a wide range of abilities. There is Iridessa, a Light fairy, Fawn, an Animal fairy, Rosetta, a Garden fairy, Vidia, a Fast-Flying fairy, and Silvermist, a Water fairy.

These are the primary characters that Tinkerbell interacts with, but there are several others that have appeared throughout the films. Some of those include her fellow Tinkers, Clank and Bobble, a dustkeeper named Zarina, Fairy Mary, who manages the Tinkers, Fairy Gary, who manages the dustkeepers, Queen Clarion, who rules over Pixie Hollow, and Periwinkle, who shares a very special bond with Tinkerbell. Periwinkle is a winter fairy, and she is Tinkerbell’s twin sister, having been born of the same child’s laughter as Tinkerbell.

For those who don’t understand the dynamics of how a fairy comes to be, they are born when a child first laughs, which is a special occurrence for all fairies. Tinkerbell and Periwinkle were born of the same laugh, which makes them special, as twins are not common to fairies.

It is understandable that only the most popular characters will usually be mass-marketed from a franchise, which in this case means that Tinkerbell and her friends will be the most visible in toy aisles. Tinkerbell obviously holds the most sway, as she is the face of the franchise and its namesake. It is understandable then that any toy with her likeness is selected first by most young girls and treasured above all others.

Surprisingly though a few of the fairies are just as popular, such as Rosetta, Fawn, and Silvermist. Vidia, Periwinkle, and Iridessa are still quite popular, but don’t tend to sell nearly as often as the others. It might have something to do with their marketability or how they are viewed by young children. Each fairy is given their own attitude and personality after all, and children do pick up on this in terms of which toy they favor. In any case, the Disney Fairy toy characters are favorites on virtually any shelf.
